The tanks may be made of different materials and different sizes e.g. 12 gallons, 16 gallons etc. In some machines, the dry dust tank and the wet tank are different while in other models there is only one tank.

Whichever the case, the first step is to empty the tank in order to create space for the water to be picked up. This will help create enough room to gather in all the materials that you want picked.

Note: where applicable, detach the dry dirt tank as you empty the wet tank.

2nd Step

After emptying the tank, you can then detach the filter. When a filter stays wet for long, mildew and mold occur which definitely causes damage. For this reason, remove the filter and fit it later when you are through with picking up the water.

Some constructions nevertheless can pick up small amount of water with the filter in place. However, the filter should be dried after this in order to prevent damage. In most models in market today, it is very easy to detach and attach the filter.

In models without this function, listen for raised pitch as this indicates that the air flow has been cut since the tank is full. Floating ball mechanism in some models also causes the pitch to rise once the tank is full. Once this is observed, empty the tank immediately.

Note: running the wet dry vacuum when the storage tank is full causes overflow which in turn damages the motor.

5th Step

Ensure that you have collected everything and the place is completely clean. You can then unplug and empty your wet dry vacuum machine. After collecting, unplug the machine from socket and empty the contents from the tank.

This is done by pouring the water from the tank through an opened vacuum head. However, some models have a drain plug positioned at the bottom. In such a case, open the drain plug so that the water flows out of the storage tank.

Note: some of the water tanks are very large having a capacity of upto tens of gallons. The amount of water collected adds on to the weight of the cleaner and taking it out especially where the model lacks casters.

Check the amount of water to ensure that the weight is considerable.

Wash the tank and fit the filter
